The doors in Greene County.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

3 of the 4 doors inside the county line are CDFI-certified.
The U.S. Treasury certifies them to lend to the people banks pass over. It is a loan, not a favour.
How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Mar 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Greene County is rural, and big banks often say no to small operators. This guide points you to local credit unions, CDFIs, and SBA-backed lenders who understand your situation and work with ITIN numbers. You'll need a clear plan and honest numbers—but the money is there if you know where to look.
It's a relationship, not a transaction.
In Greene County, the lenders who move fastest are the ones who know you or can talk to someone who does. A bank in Montgomery or Birmingham doesn't care about your reputation or your family history in Eutaw. A local credit union or CDFI does.
They look at your character, your track record, and your ties to the community—not just a credit score.
That's your advantage. Use it.

Forget what the banks say.
When a Chase or Renasant banker says no, they're following a rulebook written for people with perfect credit and W-2s. You're not that person, and you don't need to be.
Community banks, credit unions, and CDFIs have different rules.
They will look at bank statements, cash flow, collateral, and your willingness to work. An ITIN number? Not a blocker. A bankruptcy five years ago? Painful, but not a permanent door slam. The word 'no' from a big bank is just noise. Move on.

Three things you can't skip.
- 01Get your numbers clean
Two years of personal and business tax returns, three months of bank statements, and a list of what you own. You don't need perfect numbers—you need honest numbers. A lender will trust a person who shows real income and a real plan more than someone hiding things.
- 02Know what you want the money for
'I need cash' doesn't work. 'I need $25,000 to buy tools and equipment for my renovation crew, and I'll pay it back from the jobs I have lined up' does.
- 03Decide whether you're borrowing as a sole proprietor or forming an LLC.
Talk to a local accountant before you borrow—it changes what programs you qualify for and how much you pay in taxes.

Three doors worth knowing.
Door One: the SBA microloan program through local nonprofits. The SBA backs loans of $50,000 or less for contractors and small operators. You'll work with a local nonprofit intermediary, not the feds directly.

Don't fall into these traps.
Read the terms before you sign. Some lenders quote low rates and hide fees in origination, prepayment penalties, or 'processing' charges. Ask the lender to write down the total amount you'll pay back, not just the rate. Never use a broker you find online for a loan under $50,000—their fee will eat up half your money. Go directly to the lender. Don't borrow against your house for business money unless the business is truly going to make you rich. If it fails, you lose your home.
Online brokers quote low rates, then charge 3–5% origination fees that you don't see until closing; go directly to a credit union or CDFI instead.
A lender asks you to pledge your home or truck for a $10,000 business loan; if the business stumbles, you lose the collateral.
The fine print says you pay a penalty if you pay off the loan early; always ask if prepayment is free before you sign.
Everything below is set by Alabama, and it reads the same in every county in it. The 4 marks above are this county's own doors — who opens one is decided by them, not by the state.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. Alabama sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- BUSINESS TAX6.5%
What Alabama charges on top of federal. It is the first thing a lender reconciles when your numbers do not match your tax return.
- CORPORATE INCOME TAX6.5%
It depends on how the business is registered. A sole proprietor almost never pays it — worth knowing which side of that line you are on before you apply.
- SALES TAX4.0% state · 5.25% avg local
What you collect on a job, and what your materials cost. It is the gap between a bid that holds and one that does not.
- WHERE THE MONEY IS HEREAutomotive Manufacturing · Aerospace & Defense · Steel & Metals
Alabama's three biggest sectors. A local lender reads your file against them — a trade that serves these is a trade they already understand.
