How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Jun 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.

What Is Business Financing?
Business financing is money you borrow — or receive — to start, run, or grow a business. It comes in several forms:
- 01**Term loans**
You borrow a set amount and repay it over time with interest. Good for one-time purchases like equipment or a work vehicle.
- 02**Lines of credit**
A flexible pool of money you draw from as needed and repay. Useful for covering payroll gaps or buying materials before a client pays you.
- 03**Microloans**
Smaller loans (often under $50,000) designed for new or very small businesses. Many CDFIs and nonprofits offer these with more flexible requirements than a bank.
- 04**SBA-backed loans**
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) doesn't lend directly to you — it guarantees a portion of a loan made by a local bank or CDFI, which lowers the lender's risk and makes it easier for you to qualify.
- 05**Grants**
Free money you don't repay, but they're competitive and often tied to specific industries or demographics.
- 06**Equipment financing**
A loan or lease specifically for machinery, tools, or vehicles, where the equipment itself serves as collateral.

Forget what the banks say.
Livingston Parish is one of Louisiana's fastest-growing parishes. The local economy runs heavily on construction and skilled trades, distribution and logistics (fueled by proximity to Baton Rouge and I-12), small retail and service businesses, and agriculture and forestry operations in the northern parts of the parish.
If you work in any of these sectors — as a solo contractor, a small LLC, or a growing shop owner in Denham Springs, Walker, or Livingston — you likely qualify for at least one financing product.
Common eligibility factors:
- Time in business: Many loans require 1–2 years of operating history, but microloans and CDFIs often work with startups.
- Credit score: Conventional bank loans prefer scores above 680. CDFIs and credit unions often work with scores in the 580–650 range.
- Revenue: Lenders want to see that your business generates income, even if it's irregular. Bank statements, invoices, and tax returns all help tell your story.
- Collateral: Some loans require assets (equipment, real estate, receivables) as security. Unsecured microloans exist for those without collateral.
- Immigration status: You do NOT need to be a U.S. citizen or have a Social Security Number to access certain loans. ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) holders can qualify through specific lenders — details in Section 4.
If you've been turned down by a bank before, that does not mean you are out of options. Local intermediaries exist specifically to serve business owners the big banks miss.

Get your papers in order.
Gathering your paperwork before you apply saves time and increases your chances of approval. Requirements vary by lender, but here is a solid starting list:
For all applicants:
- Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, or consular ID/matrícula)
- ITIN or Social Security Number
- Business license or proof of registration with the Louisiana Secretary of State
- 3–6 months of personal and business bank statements
- Most recent 1–2 years of personal tax returns (Form 1040) and business tax returns if applicable
- Profit & loss statement or a simple income summary (your accountant or bookkeeper can help with this)
- Voided business check or proof of business bank account
For larger loans or SBA products:
- Business plan (doesn't need to be long — 2 to 3 pages covering what you do, who your customers are, and how you'll repay the loan)
- Accounts receivable and payable aging reports
- Lease agreements or property deeds if your business has a physical location
- Existing loan statements
For ITIN applicants specifically:
- ITIN letter issued by the IRS
- At least 2 years of ITIN-filed tax returns
- Any Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) documents the lender requests
Tip: Open a dedicated business bank account before you apply, even if it's new. Mixing personal and business money is one of the most common reasons lenders hesitate.

Don't fall into these traps.
Not every financing offer is in your best interest. Here are patterns that can hurt Livingston Parish small business owners:
Merchant Cash Advances (MCAs)
An MCA is not a loan — it's a purchase of your future receivables at a steep discount. Factor rates (not APR) can translate to effective annual interest rates of 60% to 300%. They are legal but rarely a good deal for a small contractor or shop owner. If someone says 'no credit check, cash in 24 hours,' it is almost certainly an MCA.
Equipment Sale-Leaseback Schemes
Some lenders offer to 'buy' your equipment and lease it back to you. Read every line carefully. You can end up paying far more than your equipment is worth and losing ownership.
Upfront Fee Demands
Legitimate lenders do not require large upfront fees before processing your loan. Application fees under $100 are common; being asked for $500–$2,000 before you receive anything is a red flag.
Pressure to Sign Quickly
Any lender who says 'this offer expires in 24 hours' or 'you need to decide today' is using a sales tactic, not serving your business. Take your time. A legitimate lender will give you time to read the documents and consult someone you trust.
Confessions of Judgment
Some online lenders include a 'confession of judgment' clause in their contracts. This allows the lender to collect from your bank account without going to court first. Louisiana courts have some protections here, but avoid any contract with this language.
Too-Good-To-Be-True Grants
Social media ads promising 'free government business grants for minorities' with an application fee are almost always scams. Legitimate grants come through verified government and nonprofit channels — not DMs.
What to do instead:
Always ask for the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) in writing.
Get a second opinion from the Hammond SBDC or a SCORE mentor before signing.
Compare at least two offers before committing.
If something feels wrong, trust that feeling and walk away.
Everything below is set by Louisiana, and it reads the same in every county in it. The 8 marks above are this county's own doors — who opens one is decided by them, not by the state.
The rules where you are.
Operating a business in Louisiana comes with some state-specific rules that affect your financing picture. Here's what Livingston Parish business owners should know:
Business Registration
All for-profit businesses operating in Louisiana must register with the Louisiana Secretary of State. LLCs, corporations, and partnerships have different filing fees and annual report requirements. Operating without proper registration can disqualify you from most loan programs.
Website: sos.la.gov
Louisiana Contractor Licensing
If you are a contractor in construction, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC, Louisiana requires licensure through the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC). Lenders financing contractor businesses will often verify your license status. Make sure yours is current before applying.
Website: lslbc.louisiana.gov
Louisiana Workforce Commission — Small Business Programs
Louisiana offers some workforce training grants and incentives for businesses that hire locally. These can reduce operating costs and indirectly strengthen your loan application by improving your cash flow.
LED FastStart and Other State Incentives
Louisiana Economic Development (LED) runs several programs — including FastStart (workforce training), the Small Business Loan Program, and the Modernization Tax Credit. Not every business qualifies, but it is worth a conversation with an SBDC advisor to see what applies to you.
Website: opportunitylouisiana.com
Usury and Lending Laws
Louisiana has its own usury laws capping interest rates on certain loans. For consumer loans under $350,000, rate caps apply under Louisiana Revised Statute 9:3500. Commercial loans often have different rules. If a lender quotes you a rate that feels very high, ask them to explain it in writing and compare it with what a CDFI or credit union offers.
Livingston Parish Sales Tax
Livingston Parish has a combined sales tax rate (state + parish) that affects retail businesses. If you sell taxable goods, register with the Louisiana Department of Revenue and stay current — tax liens can block loan approvals.
