The doors in Quitman County.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Jun 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Quitman County is rural, and big banks won't work for most solo contractors and small property investors. Your real options live in the local CDFI layer, SBA district support, and state programs designed for communities like yours. This guide shows you where to go first.
It's a relationship, not a transaction.
Banks treat you like a file number. CDFIs and local credit unions know your name, your neighborhood, and why you're building something. In Quitman County, financing is not about perfect credit or a glossy business plan—it's about proving you'll pay back and that you belong here.
The lenders that matter most are the ones who understand that you're not a spreadsheet.
They'll take time to listen and work with numbers that reflect real life, not a textbook.

Forget what the banks say.
Banks will tell you that you need a 680 credit score, two years of tax returns, and a personal guarantee backed by collateral they can repossess in 30 days. Forget that. Community development financial institutions (CDFIs), credit unions, and Mississippi's own state lending programs don't follow that script.
They exist because regular banks said no to people like you.
They have flexibility on credit history, they understand seasonal income, and they'll look at cash flow instead of just a number. If a bank turned you down, that doesn't mean you're out of options—it means you're going to the right place.

Three things you can't skip.
- 01Know your real numbers before you walk into any lender's office.
Not hope, not estimates—actual income, actual expenses, actual debt. Write them down.
- 02Get clear on what you actually need to borrow.
A lot of people ask for too much because they're nervous; you'll pay interest on every dollar, so ask for what the work costs, nothing more.
- 03Understand collateral early
Most lenders in this market will ask what you can put up as security. It might be equipment, property, or accounts receivable. Know your answer before they ask.

Three doors worth knowing.
Door one is your local Mississippi CDFI or credit union—they have smaller loan minimums and flex on credit.

Based in Marks, Mississippi. A community development financial institution, certified by the U.S. Treasury to lend where a bank will not, and used to a file that is not clean.
BEST FORA personal loan, or building a credit file from nothing, and working capital, equipment and payroll for a small business.Based in Marks, Mississippi. Treasury-certified as a CDFI, which is a mandate rather than a courtesy: reaching borrowers the mainstream market passes over is the job.

Don't fall into these traps.
Trap one: Believing that no credit is the same as bad credit. It's not. A lender would rather see no history than bad behavior, and credit-builder programs exist for exactly this. Trap two: Taking a loan from someone who finds you, not someone you found. If a lender is chasing you with a contract, walk away. Trap three: Mixing personal and business debt. Keep them separate from day one, even if the amounts are small. One missed payment on personal debt can sink a business loan application, and one on business debt can wreck your credit for years.
Online lenders advertise fast approval and no credit check, then bury terms that cost you 300–500% APR and roll over into debt cycles.
A lender who insists your personal credit and assets are on the hook for 100% of the loan can wipe out your life savings if the business stumbles.
If a lender asks you to put up your home or your only truck as security, and you're not confident in the numbers, the deal isn't right.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. Mississippi sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- BUSINESS TAX5.0%
What Mississippi charges on top of federal. It is the first thing a lender reconciles when your numbers do not match your tax return.
- CORPORATE INCOME TAX5.0%
It depends on how the business is registered. A sole proprietor almost never pays it — worth knowing which side of that line you are on before you apply.
- SALES TAX7.0% state · 0.07% avg local
What you collect on a job, and what your materials cost. It is the gap between a bid that holds and one that does not.
- WHERE THE MONEY IS HEREAgriculture & Catfish · Shipbuilding & Defense · Automotive Manufacturing
Mississippi's three biggest sectors. A local lender reads your file against them — a trade that serves these is a trade they already understand.
