Owned by their members, not by shareholders. They look at your whole story rather than a score, and that is the difference when a bank says no.

THE SMALL PRINT

How to read this list.

No agenda

We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.

Based here vs. serves here

A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.

Where this comes from

Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Mar 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.

THE GUIDE

Grant County's economy runs on small contractors, ranchers, and investors—people banks often turn away. You have real options: community lenders, federal SBA guarantees, and state programs that understand rural Oregon. This guide shows you where to go first and what to avoid.

It's a relationship, not a transaction.

Banks treat you like a number and a credit score. Local lenders—CDFIs, credit unions, SBA-backed intermediaries—know your county, your work, your land.

They ask *who you are*, not just what you owe.

In Grant County, where cattle, timber, and small construction drive the economy, a loan officer who understands your seasonal cash flow or property value is worth far more than a lower rate from someone 200 miles away. Relationship lenders will also help you fix problems—defer a payment if harvest is late, adjust terms if a job runs over. That doesn't happen on a bank call center line.

Business Financing · GRANT COUNTY

Forget what the banks say.

Banks told you no because their computers say your credit is too thin, your collateral doesn't fit their box, or your income is 'irregular.' That's not the truth about you—that's the truth about their algorithm. SBA loans exist partly because regular banks reject good borrowers.

Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) are built to say yes to people and businesses banks ignore.

If you have a real plan, real collateral (land, equipment, accounts receivable), and a track record of showing up and paying what you owe, you can borrow. You may pay slightly more in interest, but you'll actually get the money and keep your dignity.

ON THE GROUNDGrant County, Oregon.

Five things. Get them in order.

  1. 01Decide what you're borrowing for

Working capital, equipment, real estate, or a mix.

  2. 02Gather your documents

Last two years of tax returns, bank statements, proof of income (1099s, contracts, invoices if you're self-employed), and details on what you'll use the money for.

  3. 03

Know your credit score (free at annualcreditreport.com) but don't let a low score stop you from applying; credit unions and CDFIs weigh character and collateral heavily.

  4. 04Find the right lender type

SBA loans for business growth, CDFI loans for underserved borrowers, credit union loans if you're a member, ITIN-friendly lenders if you're not a US citizen.

  5. 05Apply locally first

To someone who can explain terms face-to-face and won't disappear if problems arise.

WHERE TO START

Four doors worth knowing.

1. Blue Mountain Community Credit Union (serving Grant County and the Blue Mountains) focuses on members and small local business; they understand ranch and logging seasons and often overlook a low credit score if collateral is solid. 2. Wallowa Valley Bank (regional, with branches in Grant County) has community roots and SBA experience; they are more willing to work with contractors and ag-related borrowers than national chains. 3. The SBA's Baker City District Office (covers Grant County) can connect you to SBA 7(a) loans, microloans, and disaster loans, and can help you find certified intermediaries; call or visit their website to learn which lenders near you participate. 4. Oregon Community Loan Fund (Eugene-based but serves statewide) is a CDFI that specializes in small business and real-estate loans for underserved borrowers—especially useful if you've been rejected by traditional banks and have land or equipment as collateral.

WHAT TO AVOID

Don't fall into these traps.

Avoid three common mistakes: First, don't take a short-term 'bridge' loan or payday-style loan dressed up as a business loan—the interest rate will destroy you, and you'll owe the whole thing back in months, not years. Second, don't ignore your personal credit; even if a lender doesn't require a perfect score, know yours and fix obvious errors (pull your free report at annualcreditreport.com). Third, don't rush into a loan without a clear repayment plan; lenders want to know exactly how you'll pay them back—from job revenue, seasonal income, or collateral sale—and you need to believe that plan yourself.

PAYDAY DISGUISED AS BUSINESS LOAN

Short-term, high-interest 'merchant cash advance' or 'revenue-based' loan with rates of 50–200% APR that promise quick funding but trap you in debt you can't escape.

BROKER MIDDLEMAN MARKUP

Loan broker who takes a cut (often 2–5% of the loan) and disappears; you pay the markup, not him, and if anything goes wrong, he's gone.

PERSONAL GUARANTEE TRAP

Lender insists you personally guarantee a business loan, meaning if the business fails, they can come after your house, truck, and personal assets—read the fine print and understand what you're signing.

RIGHT HEREOregon, and the rules that apply in Grant County.

The rules where you are.

None of this is set by a lender. Oregon sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.

  • BUSINESS TAX6.6% – 7.6%

What Oregon charges on top of federal. It is the first thing a lender reconciles when your numbers do not match your tax return.

  • CORPORATE INCOME TAX6.6% – 7.6%

It depends on how the business is registered. A sole proprietor almost never pays it — worth knowing which side of that line you are on before you apply.

  • SALES TAXNone

What you collect on a job, and what your materials cost. It is the gap between a bid that holds and one that does not.

  • WHERE THE MONEY IS HERETechnology & Semiconductors · Apparel & Athletic · Timber & Wine

Oregon's three biggest sectors. A local lender reads your file against them — a trade that serves these is a trade they already understand.

This page did not ask you for a name, an email, or a number, and nothing on it changes based on who you are.

  4. 04
