That is not a gap in this page, and it is not unusual: 26 of South Dakota's 66 counties hold a door in this lane, and Corson County is not one of them. What does serve it is below, by name and by town.
The doors in Corson County.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Mar 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Corson County is rural, which means big banks often say no—but the right lenders do say yes. This guide points you to local CDFIs, SBA resources, and credit unions that understand ranch, farm, and small-business lending in northeast South Dakota. You'll move faster and qualify easier if you know where to look.
It's a relationship, not a transaction.
Rural South Dakota financing works differently than city banking. A loan officer in Corson County will want to know your operation, your land, your family's history here—not just a credit score. That relationship is your advantage. Local lenders talk to each other.
A CDFI or credit union that knows you will move faster and work around rough patches that a distant bank would reject.
This is not slower; it is smarter. Build the relationship first, then ask for money.

Forget what the banks say.
Chase and Wells Fargo have automated lending. They will tell you no because you don't fit a formula. That is not the final answer. A CDFI, the SBA district office, or a local credit union will look at your actual business—your land equity, your water rights, your customer list, your year-round work.
They will ask harder questions but will listen to harder answers.
If a big bank said no, that is where you start: with a lender who still looks people in the eye.

Three things you can't skip.
- 01Know what you own
If you own land, equipment, or a business with a customer base, write it down with current values. Lenders want to see real assets.
- 02Bring two years of tax returns and a simple one-page description of what you do and why you need the money.
You don't need a glossy business plan; you need honesty.
- 03Ask the lender upfront what they need from you and stick to their timeline.
Rural lenders move fast when you don't waste their time.

Three doors worth knowing.
First: the South Dakota Community Development Corporation (SD CDC), a state CDFI that funds small businesses, ranches, and real-estate projects across rural South Dakota, including Corson County.

BEST FORWorking capital, equipment and payroll for a small business — with no social security number.Based in San Francisco, California. Zero-interest lending circles and credit building. It will open an application with an ITIN instead of a social security number.
BEST FORA personal loan, or building a credit file from nothing — with no social security number.
Don't fall into these traps.
One: don't borrow from online lenders advertising guaranteed approval and fast money. Their rates are 30–50% per year and they own your business if you miss a payment. Two: don't let a broker collect fees upfront; real lenders collect fees at closing, not before. Three: don't rush. A bad loan closes fast but haunts you for years. A good lender in Corson County will take two to four weeks. That is the right speed.
Fast-approval online lenders charge 30–50% annual interest and take collateral you can't afford to lose.
Brokers who demand payment before closing are hiding bad terms or don't have a real lender lined up.
A lender who closes in three days is often hiding terms that will hurt you; good rural lenders take two to four weeks to do it right.
Everything below is set by South Dakota, and it reads the same in every county in it. Who opens the door is not: 2 of the 3 above will take an ITIN instead of a social security number.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. South Dakota sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- BUSINESS TAXNone
What South Dakota charges on top of federal. It is the first thing a lender reconciles when your numbers do not match your tax return.
- CORPORATE INCOME TAXNone
It depends on how the business is registered. A sole proprietor almost never pays it — worth knowing which side of that line you are on before you apply.
- SALES TAX4.2% state · 1.91% avg local
What you collect on a job, and what your materials cost. It is the gap between a bid that holds and one that does not.
- WHERE THE MONEY IS HEREAgriculture & Livestock · Banking & Finance · Tourism & Rushmore
South Dakota's three biggest sectors. A local lender reads your file against them — a trade that serves these is a trade they already understand.
