That is not a gap in this page, and it is not unusual: 20 of Nebraska's 93 counties hold a door in this lane, and Boyd County is not one of them. What does serve it is below, by name and by town.
The doors in Boyd County.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Mar 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Boyd County has limited in-county lenders, but you have real options through regional credit unions, Nebraska's state CDFI network, and the Omaha SBA district office. This guide points you to intermediaries that understand contractor cash flow and land deals, not just W-2 paychecks. Skip the national banks first—start local.
It's a relationship, not a transaction.
Banks treat your loan like paperwork. Local lenders and credit unions treat it like a conversation. In Boyd County, where the population is small and connected, a lender who knows your contractor crew or your family carries weight.
That relationship—built on face-to-face trust—is your edge.
When you walk into a credit union or sit across from a CDFI loan officer, you're not a credit score; you're a neighbor with a plan. That changes what doors open.

Forget what the banks say.
National banks will tell you that you need a perfect credit score, three years of tax returns, and a W-2 job to qualify. Forget it. CDFIs, credit unions, and state-backed lenders in Nebraska look at cash flow, collateral, and your actual track record as a contractor or investor.
They understand that solo business owners and seasonal work don't fit a box.
If a bank said no, that doesn't mean lending stops—it means you take a different door.

Three things. Get them in order.
- 01Know your own numbers
Pull together your last two years of tax returns, bank statements, and a clear list of what you own (property, equipment, vehicles).
- 02Identify your collateral
Land, equipment, or a second property gives lenders confidence and often lowers your rate.
- 03Choose your lender type before you apply
A credit union is not a CDFI is not a bank. Each has different rules and timelines. Apply to the right one first, not three at once.

BEST FORCommunity lending where a bank has already said no, and working capital, equipment and payroll for a small business.Based in Lincoln, Nebraska. Treasury-certified as a CDFI, which is a mandate rather than a courtesy: reaching borrowers the mainstream market passes over is the job. It lends SBA microloan money.

A CDFI — a mission lender, not a branch network. It is measured on who it reaches, which is why a thin file is not the end of the conversation.

Don't fall into these traps.
Avoid lenders who demand upfront fees before approval. Avoid brokers who bundle multiple small loans into one confusing contract. Avoid anything with a prepayment penalty—you want the freedom to pay off early. And avoid silence: a lender who won't talk to you for 48 hours is not worth your time.
Legitimate lenders never charge application or processing fees until after you are fully approved and have signed a loan agreement.
A clause that penalizes you for paying off early locks you in and costs you thousands in extra interest over time.
A broker who collects a fee from you and then places your loan with a lender means you pay twice and never know your true rate until the end.
Everything below is set by Nebraska, and it reads the same in every county in it. Who opens the door is not: 3 of the 9 above will take an ITIN instead of a social security number.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. Nebraska sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- STATE INCOME TAX2.46% – 5.84% (phasing to 3.99%)
What the state takes off what you earn, before anyone works out what payment you can carry.
- SALES TAX5.5% state · 1.44% avg local
What you pay on top of every purchase. On a small loan for a repair or a tool, this is a real part of the total.
- MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME$72K
Half the households in the state earn less than this. A lot of the programs above use that number to decide who qualifies.
- COST OF LIVING91.5
National index, where 100 is the country's average. Under 100 means your money goes further here.
