The doors in Logan County.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Mar 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Logan County is ranch and agricultural country, and financing here works differently than in cities. Banks move slow and ask for collateral you may not have. This guide points you to local credit unions, state farm programs, and community lenders who understand your situation and move faster.
It's a relationship, not a transaction.
In Logan County, your banker should know your name and your land. That's not nostalgia—it's how credit actually works out here. A loan officer at a regional credit union or a CDFI will call you back.
They'll ask about your operation, not just your credit score.
They'll look at cash flow and seasonal income the way a bank won't. Start by walking into a credit union or calling a state farm lender. Bring your last two years of tax returns and a one-page summary of what you're doing. That's it.

Forget what the big banks say.
Large national banks will tell you that you need a 720 credit score, 20% down, and a job W-2. That may be true for them—and you should ignore it. Smaller regional and community lenders in North Dakota actively work with contractors, farmers, and small investors who don't fit that box. They understand seasonal income. They understand that a credit dip from a medical bill or a bad year doesn't mean you're a bad bet.
If a big bank says no, that's not the end of the conversation.
It's the beginning of the right one.

Three things. Get them in order.
- 01Clean up your tax returns
If you file, file on time and keep copies for three years. Lenders want to see income and deductions clearly. If you're self-employed, make sure your Schedule C or business return is legible and filed.
- 02Know your credit report
Order it free from annualcreditreport.com. If there are errors, dispute them. You don't need a perfect score, but you need to know what's there.
- 03Have a clear story about what the money is for.
'Equipment for my contracting business' or 'down payment on a rental property' beats vague requests. Write one paragraph. That's your elevator pitch.

Three doors worth knowing.
Door One: Logan County Credit Unions. State-chartered and community-focused, they lend to contractors and small operators year-round. They understand seasonal cash flow.

Don't fall into these traps.
Trap One: Don't use payday loans or title loans as a 'bridge.' They charge 400% annual interest and trap you in a cycle. A credit union will give you a short-term personal loan at 12–18% instead. Trap Two: Don't assume you need a co-signer if you haven't asked a CDFI or credit union first. Many community lenders will work with you alone if you have income and a plan. Trap Three: Don't hand over money upfront for a loan 'guarantee.' No legitimate lender charges an application fee or guarantee fee before closing. If someone asks, walk away.
Online lenders market 'installment loans' or 'lines of credit' at 400% APR—same trap as payday loans, different name.
No real lender charges a fee or asks for money before closing; if they do, they're a scam.
One bank's no is not final; credit unions and CDFIs use different criteria and approve people banks reject.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. North Dakota sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- STATE INCOME TAX1.95% – 2.5%
What the state takes off what you earn, before anyone works out what payment you can carry.
- SALES TAX5.0% state · 2.0% avg local
What you pay on top of every purchase. On a small loan for a repair or a tool, this is a real part of the total.
- MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME$74K
Half the households in the state earn less than this. A lot of the programs above use that number to decide who qualifies.
- COST OF LIVING94.6
National index, where 100 is the country's average. Under 100 means your money goes further here.

The short version.
- 01
1 door sit inside the Logan County line. They are up the page, by name and by town — and none of them paid to be there.
- 02
1 of them are credit unions — owned by their members rather than by shareholders, and used to reading a whole story instead of a score.
- 03
This page did not ask you for a name, an email, or a number, and nothing on it changes based on who you are.
