That is not a gap in this page, and it is not unusual: 16 of Nebraska's 93 counties hold a door in this lane, and Arthur County is not one of them. What does serve it is below, by name and by town.
The doors in Arthur County.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Mar 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Arthur County is rural, and banks often say no to small operators. You have better options: local credit unions, state-backed microloans, and USDA rural lenders that actually understand your market. Start local, build relationships, and know which programs were designed for counties like yours.
It's a network, not a lottery.
In a county this size, financing is not about filling out a form and hoping. It's about meeting the right person who knows your name and your land. Banks in larger towns screen by algorithm.
Credit unions and community lenders in Nebraska screen by conversation.
One local relationship—a lending officer, a CDFI advisor, a county economic development contact—opens more doors than a perfect credit score mailed to a distant corporate office. Arthur County has fewer than 400 people. That means the intermediaries—the SBA district office in Omaha, the state CDFI network, the local credit union—they know each other. Use that.

Forget what the banks say.
Big banks rejected you because you're self-employed, or your collateral is rural land, or your income is seasonal. Those are features of rural Nebraska, not disqualifications. A CDFI lender or a local credit union evaluates the same application and sees opportunity.
Banks use standardized credit boxes; community lenders use judgment.
A contractor with inconsistent income for two years is a normal Nebraska operator to a local lender—not a red flag. If a bank in a bigger city turned you down, it means you're a fit for a smaller, local lender who understands rural cash flow.

Three things you can't skip.
- 01Go to the SBA district office in Omaha (or call 402-221-4691) before you apply anywhere.
They will tell you which programs you qualify for and which lenders near you are certified to deliver them. Free advice, and it saves you application fees.
- 02Ask your local credit union first
They know Arthur County property, they know your neighbors, they move faster than banks.
- 03If you are self-employed or have irregular income
Bring two years of tax returns, bank statements, and a one-page explanation of your cash flow pattern. Local lenders want to see the real picture, not a polished resume.

Three doors worth knowing.
Door One: The Nebraska Rural Community Development Corporation (NRCDC) is a state CDFI that lends to small businesses and real-estate investors across rural Nebraska, including Arthur County.

Don't fall into these traps.
Trap One: Avoid online lenders who advertise 'fast approval' and promise no credit check. Their interest rates (often 30–50% APR) will choke your business. Trap Two: Don't borrow against your home or vehicle unless you have a clear repayment plan and the lender is a bank or credit union, not a broker. Trap Three: Never pay an upfront fee to a loan broker or 'guarantee' service. Real lenders collect fees from the loan itself, not from your pocket before you see a dollar.
Online lenders calling themselves 'merchant cash advance' or 'invoice financing' charge 30–300% APR and trap you in a debt spiral.
A broker who asks for a fee before closing is taking your money for a promise; legitimate lenders collect fees from loan proceeds, not your pocket.
Pledging your home or vehicle to a non-bank lender puts your family's security at risk for a short-term loan you could get elsewhere.
Everything below is set by Nebraska, and it reads the same in every county in it. Who opens the door is not: 3 of the 9 above will take an ITIN instead of a social security number.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. Nebraska sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- BUSINESS TAX7.25%
What Nebraska charges on top of federal. It is the first thing a lender reconciles when your numbers do not match your tax return.
- CORPORATE INCOME TAX5.58% – 7.25%
It depends on how the business is registered. A sole proprietor almost never pays it — worth knowing which side of that line you are on before you apply.
- SALES TAX5.5% state · 1.44% avg local
What you collect on a job, and what your materials cost. It is the gap between a bid that holds and one that does not.
- WHERE THE MONEY IS HEREAgriculture & Beef · Insurance & Finance · Transportation & Rail
Nebraska's three biggest sectors. A local lender reads your file against them — a trade that serves these is a trade they already understand.
