That is not a gap in this page, and it is not unusual: 20 of Nebraska's 93 counties hold a door in this lane, and Arthur County is not one of them. What does serve it is below, by name and by town.
The doors in Arthur County.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Mar 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Arthur County is rural Nebraska, and the big banks often ignore you. This guide shows you where local intermediaries, state programs, and credit unions actually work with contractors and small investors. You'll find real options that don't require a perfect credit score or a stack of paperwork.
It's a relationship, not a transaction.
Banks treat you like a number. Local lenders—credit unions, CDFIs, SBA district offices—treat you like a neighbor. In Arthur County, your reputation and your willingness to show up matter more than a credit score. A local lender will sit down and explain what they see in your business.
They know agriculture, cattle, equipment, and side work.
They won't ghost you after you apply. That relationship is worth more than a rate that's 0.5% lower at a place that doesn't know your name.

Forget what the banks say.
Big banks tell you that you need a perfect credit history, a co-signer, collateral they can auction off in 30 days, and tax returns filed three years in a row. That's their playbook, not the only playbook. Local CDFIs, credit unions, and SBA-backed lenders use different rules. They look at cash flow. They understand seasonal income. They accept ITIN numbers.
They know that a contractor's income bounces.
They care that you show up on time, pay your suppliers, and keep your word. Don't let rejection from Chase or Wells Fargo stop you from walking into a local credit union.

Four things. Get them in order.
- 01Know what you actually need to borrow, and why.
- 02Gather your numbers
Tax returns, bank statements, a simple cash-flow record for the last 12 months. You don't need fancy accounting; you need proof that money moves in and out of your business.
- 03Talk to your local SBA district office or a CDFI before you walk into any lender.
They'll tell you which doors are open for you.
- 04When you find a lender who listens
Ask what paperwork they really need—not what their website says, but what that loan officer will actually look at to say yes.

Four doors worth knowing.

Don't fall into these traps.
Listen for predatory language: anything that costs you money upfront before you get the loan, anything that promises approval without asking questions, anything that ties your business to a personal guarantee on your house. Avoid online lenders that advertise 'instant approval'—they rarely serve rural Nebraska well, and their rates are often so high they strangle your cash flow. Don't borrow more than you need just because someone offers it; that extra money looks free until you have to pay it back. And never rush into a loan because you're desperate. A bad loan, even a fast one, will hurt you worse than waiting two weeks to find a real option.
Any lender who asks for money before you get the loan is not a lender; they're a hustler.
Online lenders promising approval without questions often charge rates above 30% and rarely serve rural Nebraska borrowers well.
Never put your home at risk for business debt unless you've talked to a lawyer and a real lender first.
Everything below is set by Nebraska, and it reads the same in every county in it. Who opens the door is not: 3 of the 9 above will take an ITIN instead of a social security number.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. Nebraska sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- STATE INCOME TAX2.46% – 5.84% (phasing to 3.99%)
What the state takes off what you earn, before anyone works out what payment you can carry.
- SALES TAX5.5% state · 1.44% avg local
What you pay on top of every purchase. On a small loan for a repair or a tool, this is a real part of the total.
- MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME$72K
Half the households in the state earn less than this. A lot of the programs above use that number to decide who qualifies.
- COST OF LIVING91.5
