Based here vs. serves here

A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.

Where this comes from

Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Jun 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.

THE GUIDE

This guide helps solo contractors, small business owners, and real-estate investors in Uinta County, Wyoming find honest, affordable financing through local lenders, credit unions, and community development resources. It covers who qualifies, what documents you need, which local organizations actually serve this area, and how to avoid predatory traps. Origen Capital is a directory — we connect you to resources, we do not lend money or collect your information.

What Is Small Business Financing?

Small business financing is any loan, line of credit, or funding program that helps you start, grow, or stabilize a business. This can include working capital loans (to cover everyday costs like payroll or supplies), equipment loans, commercial real estate loans, microloans for very small startups, and lines of credit you draw on as needed.

Financing is not a grant — you borrow money and pay it back, usually with interest.

The goal is to match the right type of financing to your actual need.

A contractor buying a new truck has a different need than a landlord refinancing a small rental property, and different loan products exist for each situation.

For business owners in Uinta County, the most practical path usually runs through a local lender, community bank, or credit union — not a big national bank or an online lender you found through an ad. Local lenders understand the regional economy, have more flexibility on approval criteria, and often participate in state and federal programs that reduce the cost of borrowing.

Who Qualifies? Connecting Eligibility to Uinta County's Economy

Forget what the banks say.

Uinta County sits in the southwest corner of Wyoming, anchored by the city of Evanston. The local economy is driven by energy (oil, gas, and trona mining), agriculture, small retail, construction trades, and cross-border commerce near the Utah state line. Many qualifying businesses are sole proprietors, LLCs, or small partnerships in these sectors.

General eligibility factors lenders look at:

  • Time in business — Most traditional lenders want at least 1–2 years of operating history. Startups can often access microloans or state seed programs instead.
  • Credit score — A personal credit score of 620 or above helps, but some community lenders and CDFIs will work with scores below that, especially if you have strong cash flow or collateral.
  • Revenue and cash flow — Lenders want to see that your business generates enough money to repay a loan. Even seasonal businesses (common in agriculture and construction) can qualify if they show consistent annual revenue.
  • Collateral — Equipment, real estate, or business assets can secure a loan and improve your terms.
  • ITIN borrowers — If you do not have a Social Security number, an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) may be accepted by certain local lenders and credit unions. Ask specifically about ITIN-friendly products when you call.

Energy-sector contractors, independent truckers, small agricultural operations, and construction subcontractors are all common borrower profiles in this county. Do not assume you won't qualify — call a local lender and have a conversation first.

Documents You Will Typically Need

Get your papers in order.

Gathering your paperwork before you apply saves time and shows lenders you are organized. Requirements vary by lender and loan type, but here is a solid starting checklist for Uinta County borrowers:

Business Documents

  • Business license or Wyoming Secretary of State registration
  • Articles of organization or incorporation (if you have an LLC or corporation)
  • EIN (Employer Identification Number) from the IRS — or ITIN if applicable
  • Business bank statements (last 3–12 months)
  • Profit and loss statement (even a simple one you prepared yourself)
  • Most recent 2 years of business tax returns (if available)

Personal Documents

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Social Security number or ITIN
  • Personal tax returns (last 2 years)
  • Personal bank statements (last 3 months)
  • Personal financial statement (some lenders provide a form)

For Real Estate or Equipment Loans — Add:

  • Purchase contract or property address
  • Property appraisal or equipment quote
  • Proof of insurance

For Startups — Replace Tax Returns With:

  • Business plan (does not need to be fancy — one to two pages is fine)
  • Financial projections for the next 12–24 months

If you are missing some of these, do not wait — reach out to a lender or CDFI first. Many will tell you exactly what they need and help you prepare.

WHAT TO AVOID

Don't fall into these traps.

Not every lender wants to help you. Some financing products are structured to keep you in debt or extract fees regardless of your success. Here is what to watch for in Uinta County and anywhere else:

Merchant Cash Advances (MCAs)

An MCA is not a loan — it is a purchase of your future revenue at a discount. The effective APR on an MCA can reach 100–300%. They are marketed heavily to small businesses with phrases like 'no credit check' or 'funding in 24 hours.' If a lender leads with speed and doesn't ask about your business plan, be very cautious.

Factor Rate Confusion

Some online lenders quote a 'factor rate' of 1.3 or 1.4 instead of an APR. A 1.4 factor rate on a 6-month loan is not 40% interest — it is more like 80–100% APR. Always ask: 'What is the APR?' If they cannot or will not answer, walk away.

Upfront Fees Before Approval

Legitimate lenders do not require large upfront fees before approving your loan. Small application fees (under $100) are sometimes standard, but if someone asks for $500 or more before you have a signed loan agreement, that is a red flag.

Unsolicited Offers

If you receive a cold call, text, or social media message offering fast business funding, treat it with suspicion. Legitimate local lenders do not cold-call borrowers. Refer only to lenders you have researched or that were referred to you by the SBDC, a credit union, or a trusted advisor.

Confession of Judgment Clauses

Some predatory loan agreements include a 'confession of judgment' — a clause where you waive your right to contest the debt in court. Wyoming courts generally disfavor these clauses in consumer contexts, but in commercial lending they can still appear. Read every document before signing. Ask a local attorney or SBDC advisor to review anything you don't understand.

'No-Doc' Loans With Sky-High Rates

If a lender says they don't need any documentation and offers you a large sum quickly, expect a very high interest rate buried in the fine print. Real community lenders ask questions because they want you to succeed — not because they want to trap you.

The Right Pace

Good financing takes a few days to a few weeks. It is not instant. If someone is pressuring you to sign today or the offer expires, that urgency is a manipulation tactic. Real lenders will give you time to review documents.

Wyoming State-Specific Regulatory Notes

The rules where you are.

Wyoming has one of the most business-friendly regulatory environments in the United States, which generally works in your favor as a small business borrower. Here are the state-specific points that matter most:

Wyoming Has No State Income Tax

This is relevant to lenders evaluating your personal financial strength. It also means your tax documents may look different from borrowers in other states — lenders familiar with Wyoming will understand this.

LLC Formation Is Simple and Inexpensive

Wyoming pioneered the LLC structure and remains one of the best states in the country to form one. If you are operating as a sole proprietor and plan to borrow money, consider formalizing as a Wyoming LLC first. It can improve your credibility with lenders and provide personal liability protection. The Wyoming Secretary of State's office charges a modest annual fee.

Wyoming Usury Law

Wyoming has relatively permissive usury laws, meaning there is no strict cap on interest rates for business loans. This is standard across most states for commercial lending — but it means you must be an informed borrower. Always ask for the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) in writing before signing.

Energy Industry Volatility

Uinta County's economy is closely tied to oil, gas, and trona mining. Lenders who know this market will factor commodity price cycles into their underwriting. If your business revenue fluctuates with energy prices, be prepared to explain your cash flow management strategy. Some lenders may require larger reserves or a shorter loan term.

Wyoming SBDC Assistance Is Free

State law supports the SBDC network through the University of Wyoming system. All consulting is no-cost to Wyoming business owners — you have already paid for it through your taxes. Use it.

Native American-Owned Businesses

Although Uinta County does not include a tribal reservation, Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Nation members and businesses sometimes operate throughout southwest Wyoming. The Wind River Community Development Association (WRCDA) is a CDFI serving Native-owned businesses statewide and may have relevant programs.

THE SHORT VERSION

The short version.

  1. 01

Here is the short version of everything in this guide:

  2. 02

If you are a small business owner, solo contractor, or real-estate investor in Uinta County, Wyoming, your best first step is to contact the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for free advice — they will help you figure out what you need and connect you to the right lender. For loans, look first at local credit unions like Western Vista Federal Credit Union, community banks, and CDFIs like Accion Opportunity Fund or RMCRC. The Wyoming Business Council has state-funded programs that may offer lower interest rates than conventional banks, especially if you are creating jobs or operating in agriculture. The SBA Wyoming District Office in Casper can point you to SBA-approved lenders working in your area.

  3. 03

Gather your documents — business bank statements, tax returns, ID, and EIN or ITIN — before you apply. If you are missing something, ask your lender what they need most.

  4. 04

Avoid merchant cash advances, factor-rate lenders, and anyone pressuring you to sign quickly. Good lenders want you to understand what you are agreeing to.
