The doors in Allen Parish.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Mar 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Allen Parish is rural and tight-knit—and that means traditional banks often turn away contractors and small investors without perfect credit or collateral. You have other doors. Local credit unions, state-backed lenders, and community development finance institutions in Southwest Louisiana understand your situation and move faster than the big banks.
It's a relationship, not a transaction.
Banks treat you like a number. Local lenders in Allen Parish—credit unions, CDFIs, and SBA-backed shops—treat you like a neighbor with a real business. That difference matters. They ask why you need the money, not just whether your credit score fits a formula. If you've been rejected by Chase or Regions, it's not because you can't borrow.
It's because you haven't walked into the right room yet.
The right room is usually within 30 miles of Oberlin.

Forget what the banks say.
Banks say you need 650 credit, two years of tax returns, and a spotless record. Forget it. Community development financial institutions in Louisiana work with scores in the 500s. Credit unions care more about your job stability and how long you've lived here than your past mistakes. SBA lenders are legally required to consider applicants banks reject. And ITIN lenders exist specifically for immigrants and self-employed people the big banks won't touch.
When a bank says no, you haven't run out of options.
You've just finished with option one.

Four things. Get them in order.
- 01Know what you actually need
A $5,000 equipment loan is different from a $50,000 business line of credit.
- 02Gather what you have
Recent bank statements, proof of income (tax returns, 1099s, or profit-and-loss statements if you're self-employed), and a simple one-page description of what the money is for.
- 03Talk to a CDFI or credit union before you apply to anyone else.
They'll tell you straight whether you qualify and what paperwork matters.
- 04Apply locally
A lender who knows Allen Parish moves faster and bends less.

Four doors worth knowing.
Each one serves Allen Parish or Southwest Louisiana directly. Walk into them in this order: (1) Your local credit union—if you're a member, they move fastest and charge less.

Don't fall into these traps.
Payday lenders and title lenders sit on the highway and in strip malls. They look fast and easy. They are neither. A $500 payday loan costs $75 to $150 in fees for two weeks—that's 400% annualized. You'll borrow five times to pay off one. Avoid them completely. Second: don't apply to ten lenders at once. Each application hits your credit score. Apply to one, wait one week, ask for feedback, then move to the next. Third: never sign anything you don't understand, and never sign it in someone else's car or under time pressure. Real lenders explain every number and give you time to think.
A $500 payday loan costs $75–$150 every two weeks; most borrowers roll it over five or six times before escaping.
Applying to ten lenders in one week tanks your credit score; apply to one, wait, get feedback, then move to the next.
Some lenders hide 5–10% upfront fees in the fine print; always ask the all-in cost before you sign.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. Louisiana sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- STATE INCOME TAX3.0% flat (2025)
What the state takes off what you earn, before anyone works out what payment you can carry.
- SALES TAX4.45% state · 5.1% avg local
What you pay on top of every purchase. On a small loan for a repair or a tool, this is a real part of the total.
- MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME$58K
Half the households in the state earn less than this. A lot of the programs above use that number to decide who qualifies.
- COST OF LIVING91.4
National index, where 100 is the country's average. Under 100 means your money goes further here.

- 01
2 doors sit inside the Allen Parish line. They are up the page, by name and by town — and none of them paid to be there.
- 02
2 of them are credit unions — owned by their members rather than by shareholders, and used to reading a whole story instead of a score.
- 03
This page did not ask you for a name, an email, or a number, and nothing on it changes based on who you are.
