The doors in Tyler County.
The CDFIs, credit unions, and microlenders that actually say yes — county by county, in two languages. We are not a lender. Nobody paid to be listed. And where a county has no good doors, we say so.

How to read this list.
We do not ask for your name, your email, or your number. Nothing on this page changes based on who you are.
A door is headquartered here when its head office sits inside the county line. The rest are based elsewhere and keep a branch you can walk into. We list both, and we label which is which.
Every institution on this page comes from public federal data — the CDFI Fund certified list (Aug 2026), NCUA credit union data (Jun 2026), and the SBA microloan intermediary list (Sep 2026) — plus a short national tier we verified by hand. We refresh each list as its agency publishes. No listing is paid.
Tyler County is small, but you have real options beyond the big banks that rejected you. Credit unions, CDFI lenders, and SBA-backed programs serve rural West Virginia. This guide points you to the local intermediaries—the people who actually know Tyler County—and shows you the traps to avoid.
It's a relationship, not a transaction.
A big bank sees a credit score and says no. A local lender sees a person with a track record, a reason, and skin in the game. In Tyler County, that relationship matters.
Credit unions, CDFIs, and community lenders know their neighbors.
They look at cash flow, collateral, and character—not just a three-digit number. When you walk in with a clear plan and honest numbers, you walk in as a real borrower, not a risk code.

Forget what the banks say.
Banks use one-size-fits-all rules written for people in cities with W-2 jobs and perfect credit. You live in Tyler County, you may be self-employed, and you have a real need. The bank's 'no' is not the final word. Local credit unions will look at your savings history and income pattern.
SBA lenders are trained to work with people banks reject.
CDFIs exist to say yes to people like you. Your job is to find the right door, not to accept the first 'no.'

Four things. Get them in order.
First: clean up your numbers. Pull your credit report (free at annualcreditreport.com), dispute errors, and gather 2–3 months of bank statements showing real income. Do not hide anything. Second: know what you need and why. 'I need $5,000 for a truck to haul materials' beats 'I need money.' Third: find the right lender for your type (CDFI for small business, credit union for personal, SBA for bigger moves).
Fourth: apply. The worst they say is no—and you already know that word.

Four doors worth knowing.
1. Community Lenders Network (WV CDFI): serves Tyler County with microloans and business financing for people banks won't touch. 2.

Based in Middlebourne, West Virginia. A credit union — owned by its members rather than by shareholders, which is exactly what changes the conversation after a bank has said no.
BEST FORA personal loan, or building a credit file from nothing, and buying, repairing or refinancing a home.
Don't fall into these traps.
You know the payday places on Main Street and online. You know they charge 400% a year and trap you in a cycle. Ignore them. Also: do not borrow from a friend or family member using their credit card or taking a second mortgage on their house. That wreck belongs to both of you. And do not rush. If a lender pushes you to decide in one day, walk out. Real lenders give you time to read, ask questions, and make a calm choice.
Payday lenders charge 400%+ annual interest; one $300 loan becomes $1,200 in debt in six months.
If your mom cosigns and you can't pay, the bank comes after her—and her credit and house go down with yours.
Any lender that says 'decide today or the offer is gone' is not a real lender; real lenders give you time to read and think.
The rules where you are.
None of this is set by a lender. West Virginia sets it, and it applies the same in every county in the state — which is why it is worth knowing before you knock on any of the doors above.
- STATE INCOME TAX2.36% – 5.12%
What the state takes off what you earn, before anyone works out what payment you can carry.
- SALES TAX6.0% state · 0.55% avg local
What you pay on top of every purchase. On a small loan for a repair or a tool, this is a real part of the total.
- MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME$54K
Half the households in the state earn less than this. A lot of the programs above use that number to decide who qualifies.
- COST OF LIVING87.7
National index, where 100 is the country's average. Under 100 means your money goes further here.
